Redken Chemistry System is a professional use treatment collection that adds shine and strength, seals the hair cuticle, and adds a brilliant gloss that lasts for at least three weeks! The Chemistry System is an "inside-out approach" to creating healthy, shiny hair. These professional-use only treatments offer intense, customized benefits for individual hair needs. In about 5 minutes, you can improve the quality of your hair. These advanced formula treatments provide immediate results after just one treatment.

REDKEN Chemistry System Treatments
The Chemistry System is a luxurious service that utilizes REDKEN's advanced technology & professional expertise to meet your individual hair care needs.
Using a unique set of formulations made with highly concentrated ingredients, the Chemistry System delivers an ounce of concentrated conditioner intense care whilst working with your hair to restore its natural pH. The entire process will take approximately 15 minutes.
We will shampoo your hair with the appropriate Redken shampoo. Then add an ounce of concentrated conditioner (your formulated shot). After 5 minutes we will spray a fabulous sealant that closes your hair cuticle trapping in all that needed moisture, strength, or protection. Rinse, sometimes apply an additional conditioner, and style at you desire!

Hair is your "medium" - it is the material that you work with to create your art.  Just as a sculptor needs to have an understanding of the properties of clay, bronze or wood, the salon professional must understand the basic properties of hair.

 

Composition of the Hair

  • Protein (70-80%) adds strength and resilience
  • Moisture (10-15%) softens and adds flexibility
  • Lipids (3-6%) keep the hair soft and supple
  • Pigment (1%) adds color to hair and absorbs UV rays
  • Minerals (.05-.5%) attract and bind proteins together
  • Carbohydrates (.1 - .5%) are the intercellular cement that binds moisture and proteins together

Distressed Hair
Distressed hair is weakened hair that has been physically changed in some way. There are two key types of hair distress:

CHEMICAL DISTRESS

Causes: overuse of chemical services such as haircolor, lightening, perming or straightening

Effects: 
 
  • Swollen cortex
  • Stretched, weakened cuticle layers
  • A reduction in elasticity resulting in upsetting the moisture / protein balance in the cortex

MECHANICAL DISTRESS

Causes: normal wear-and-tear from blow-drying, curling and flat irons, and everyday brushing

Effects:

  • Weakened hair fiber
  • Split ends
  • "Ruffling" effect on the cuticle making hair dull and lifeless

Knowledge of the hair's composition established proof that topically applied protein and moisturizing solutions - formulated with the appropriate "bonding" capabilities, can dramatically improve weakened and sensitized hair.

Redken Chemistry's advanced technology produces a system that is really quite simple. Protein and moisture repair, strengthen and replenish the hair from inside out.  And the pH sealer locks in specialized ingredients in the shot for lasting results.

Hair is dry and damaged. 
Cuticle is weakened and raised. 
Cortext is swollen

 Shot Phase delivers specialized ingredients to the cortex and the hair's surface, fortifying and improving the hair's structure. Shot Phix seals in the ingredients. Hair is in a stronger, more compact condition. Cuticle is flat, providing smoothness and shine.

The Power of Acid-Balanced pH

Independently, chemical and mechanical distress can change the pH of the hair causing it to swell.  The hair fiber is most swollen when it is very acidic or very alkaline. When the pH of the hair falls in the middle (between 4.5 and 5.5), it is considered balanced because it has less water in it (less swelling) and is therefore stronger.

Using acid-balanced products, Redken Chemistry works to make the hair look and feel stronger, healthier and more beautiful.  By rebalancing the pH of the hair, swelling is minimized and the action of specialized ingredients is maximixed.
